Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
Designed for inflating and deflating air mattresses and other inflatable items, this battery-operated pump makes the chore fast and easy. It works with Coleman double-lock and quick valves, Boston valves, and standard wide-opening valves, and is compatible with all Coleman mattresses as well most other inflatable products. (It does not, however, work with stem and needle valves such as those in basketballs, bike tires, etc.) The pump's side valve is for inflating; the top valve is for deflating. It requires four D-cell batteries (not included) and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Customer Reviews

works great for me
I don't understand so many low reviews for this product. I've had two of them for years now and they work perfect. Fills up my double size air mattress in just a few minutes. Batteries last a long time.

Will Cost You a Fortune!!
This unit gets two stars for compactness and relative ease of use. However, these benefits are of little avail when the unit is so power hungry that all but the most powerful, brand new and expensive batteries will keep the unit going for more than a few minutes. I installed some brand-new alkaline batteries (not Duracell, but not junk either at $6 for the required four D's) and set out to inflate my Coleman air bed.

Before the bed was fully inflated, the unit began to puff and wheeze and emit an ungodly shrieking noise, ultimately dying out on me and leaving the bed 3/4 inflated. I installed some brand-new Energizers and the pump came back to life, but even these began to drain before long.

The bottom line is that the power demands of this pump will leave you spending a king's ransom on batteries. Only fresh Duracells or Energizers will do the job, and even they won't last for long (and there is no AC adapter to give your wallet a rest when a plug outlet is available!).

Spend the extra $10-15 on Coleman's rechargeable model, which has been very well-reviewed here on Amazon. The money you save on batteries will pay for the better unit many times over.

Works ok...
This pump works alright. It is pretty fast for as small as it is. It is a great alternative to hand pumping the mattress up. I however agree with others that it does not make the mattress firm enough. It seems to get to a certain point and it stops filling the mattress. Im not sure if its a safety factor so you dont over fill it... but after using this pump, it still needs to be filled up more manually. If I used it more frequently I would invest in a better, more expensive pump.
